Ecology
Like many individuals, groups, and initiatives, ecological responsibility is also recognized by HempAge as one of the great and serious challenges of modern times. In this sense, we have developed the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) as an ecologically meaningful guideline and follow it in our production practices. The reasons why we do not yet have GOTS-certified products are both pragmatic and politically motivated, and they can be read in our current hemp information, which is available for download on our website.
However, regardless of the motivation, these reasons lead us directly to our ecological core intention, the material hemp. Apart from the comfort of wearing the clothing, this admirable plant has an ecological balance that far outshines other textile materials:
- The plant requires neither pesticides nor herbicides.
- It is self-sufficient and, as a deep-rooted plant, loosens the soil.
- In our climates, it does not even need to be watered.
As a logical consequence, HempAge not only creates colorful and contemporary fashion from this natural fiber but is also involved in a research company focusing on technological developments to make the use of this plant more efficient. More information on this can also be found on our website under the Research and Development section.
